Meanwhile, if you don’t know what the big deal is about the AR-6 Stinger II Tactical, you have probably not been following the rocketing growth of the repeating crossbow market these last years. The AR-6 Stinger II Tactical is the one that kicked it all off and here’s a quick look at why it’s been a hit.
Why so popular?
It is a genuine weapon that offers all the ergonomics of a real firearm but is powered by muscles and not by a high explosive. This certainly reduces the available power, but with the right projectile, you won’t need a lot of power.
It is a very lightweight and small crossbow in terms of size (even more so in case of the weapons training platform AR-6 Compact: a pistol version of the Tactical) while still having a lot of power. Carbon fiber/fiberglass composite limbs range from 35 lbs to 150 lbs.
What sets it apart from the majority of the crossbow market is two additional features. The first is a magazine that sits on top of the barrel, which holds 6-10 arrows, depending on the model. Steambow offers arrows with different heads for various applications including serious hunting and personal security. The second characteristic is the rapid cocking system that allows you to get your Stinger quickly into action, deliver a perfect shot, and quickly reload like a pump-action shotgun.
The shoulder stock can be rotated downward, activating the cocking bars which pull the string back into the fire position. These two work together to give this crossbow a shot cycle of about 1.5 seconds for each arrow. Crossbows weren’t known for their swift firing rate until Steambow rewrote the rulebook with our AR-Series lineup.

You can go for different draw weights if the standard is not ideal for your needs: go light with the 35-lb CQ limb, go mad with the 150-lb Hunting limb, or choose any of the other three limb weights in the Steambow range.
There are performance triggers too, and frame modifications that turn the AR-Series crossbows into takedowns for easy transport, storage, and maintenance. There are laser sights, red dot sights, tactical lights, and even a fixed blade knife mounted to the frame: now you can shoot the apple and then peel the apple!
